エリック・クラプトンが四歳の息子コナー失ったとき、この曲は生まれました。

喪失の悲しみがなければ、この曲が生み出されることがなかったのだと思うと、複雑な思いにとらわれます。

それは生み出すことの真実。

失い、傷つき、間違いを犯し、痛みを感じない限り、切実なものは生み出せないということ。

そして、生きているということは、喪失の連続だということ。

明るさも、前向きも、喪失をしっかり受けとめた後にやってくる一瞬の救いのことかもしれない。

こうして僕らはどんな立場でどんな暮らしをしていようとも、人として「普通」に暮らしている。

そこで、起こる事柄を、まずはしっかりと体験し受けとめ味わいたいものですね。

苦しみこそ、生きて喜びへ至る道。

恐らく、いろんなことに怖じ気づいて、その場限りの逃げをうって、誤魔化しちゃいけないんだろうな。

クラプトンの音楽は、調子の良いノリの良いロックを遥かに超えて、「切実」なロックになっている。

「切実さ」こそ、人にその意味を十全に伝えるものではないかという気がします。

切実に自分の与えられた人生を生きていきたい。
