このブログの読者の方々から、先日亡くなったマイケル・ジャクソンに関して何故書かないのかお問い合わせがありました。
少なくとも、今流布されている情報が正しければ、僕は彼とは同い年。共に五十歳です。

この八十年代のイコンであるシンガーに関しては、どうも複雑な思いがあるんです。
僕が二十代の時、親しくしていた高校生だった一人の少年が、マイケルに憧れ、アメリカに渡りました。僕は彼からマイケルを教わったといっても過言ではありません。
少年は三年あまりアポロシアターの周辺で苦労に苦労を重ね、日本に戻ってきました。今も時々Break Danceを踊っているんじゃないだろうか。

ともかくも、その少年の夢中になったマイケル・ジャクソンのライブをドームで観たとき、期待とは違ってあまりに白々しい演出にうんざりしたのを覚えています。小さな子供たちを沢山舞台に上げて、最後に泣き出す演出のアザトサに閉口しました。
その後、僕は舞台で「ウィズ」の一部ををやる機会があり、マイケルの踊りをカバーするなんてこともしたんですね。
今でも忘れてはいません！「Ease on down the road」☆

でも、こうして時が経つと、彼がきっと苦しんでいたであろうことも想像ができる。時には滑稽なピエロを演じざるを得なかったのでしょう。今もなおピエロと見なされているのかもしれません。
でも、マイケルはマイケル・ジャクソンという役と虚像と企業を一人で演じていた。
大変な成功ともいわれましたが、実は苦しみの方が多かったんだろうな。
傷つき、疲れたろうなぁ。
そんな気がします。

1991年「Dangerous」というアルバムの中の一曲。
歌詞はとてもシンプルです。単なる「愛と平和」の繰り返しではなく、もっと具体的に「手を差し伸べよう」と歌っています。
彼の真の望みはこんな所にあったんだろうなぁ。

同い年の人が亡くなるというのは、どうもきついですね。

マイケル。中学二年の時、僕はラジオで聴いた君の歌声を忘れないよ。「Ben」を。
You Tubeで見ることのできる１４才の君は、悲しい顔をしていたんだな。
僕は、大人になって、それがわかるよ。
